I don’t really understand how things work on the internet

Yesterday pH prefaced a comment to me with, “I know you really don’t understand how things work on the internet…” and then explained something to me. I think she meant I didn’t understand a Discord thing, but instead of listening to her point I thought, you know, I managed Usenet and IRC back in the day and I did okay.

I do know I massively, massively miss my old blogging community. I miss Old Law Twitter and just generally what Twitter used to be like. (I haven’t had Facebook in years–but I don’t miss Facebook much.)

I really miss talking to people.

This is how remote* my life is: the most exciting thing to happen in ages was that, on the way to the Waste Transfer Station, I had a tire blowout. (A waste transfer station is where you take garbage and then it goes to a landfill somewhere. It’s where garbage trucks go dump garbage, for those sophisticates who have garbage service. We do not.)

I limped back home and USAA sent someone to get the car. I went along–someone had to and I’m the only one who can drive (kH had a closed head injury; that–that is basically a huge part of what I deal with most days)**. Loved the guy who drove the tow truck. Talked politics (I will give this place its due: it is very liberal and so am I) and then he took me to a gun shop while we waited for my tire to be replaced (again, I will give this place its due: all the liberal people have guns and so do I).

I seriously had so much fun. I am so glad. But you know what? I have got to get the fuck out of this place. I miss my protective blanket of clouds. The mountain being out. I miss people. Friends. Going and doing things. Halibut fish and chips. I really fucking miss fish and chips. I even miss passive aggressive Portland drivers.

*FFS, I’ve learned how to make my own bagels.
**Also, it’s scary. I had a massive seizure last month and there was no one to drive me to or from the hospital. There wasn’t even a CT tech on site at the non-IHS hospital.

Sending you all the hugs and best wishes I can! I’m so sorry to hear about everything. If I can do anything, let me know—you know where to find me!
